The NZQA Diploma in Professional Scuba Instruction and National Certificate Courses are specificially designed to prepare divers with the knowledge, techniques and skills required for a career in diving. The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is your key to a new career and a new lifestyle! The IDC begins with independent learning and encompasses both the Assistant Intructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) progamme.
PADI Assistant Instructor:
The PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) course prepares divers for everything they need to know to become an instructor. It expands your knowledge, skills and experiences to provide a safe diving environment for instructing students.
During this programme, you will learn the PADI System of diver education.
- Standards and Procedures
- Effective academic teaching presentations
- Confined Water skills and techniques
- Cconducting Open Water training dives
- The business of diving and addional related topics.
The PADI Assistant Instructor rating allows divers to function as instructional assistants and independently conduct certain PADI programmes. In order to teach and certify Open Water students, divers must complete the OWSI programme.
PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor:
When you complete the IDC, you will have been trained and prepared to successfully attend the PADI Instructor Examination (IE). This is the final step toward you Open Water Scuba Instructor certification.
PADI Instructor Examination (IE)
The PADI IE is held over 2.5 days and evaluates what you learnt during the IDC programme. After the completition of the IDC (where you completed both the AI and OWSI programmes) the PADI IE allows you to become an Open Water Scuba Instructor.
During this programme you will be evaluated on:
- Dive Theory
- Knowledge development presentations
- Confined Water teaching
- Open Water teaching
- General diving skills and professionalism
The PADI IE, ties the instructor development section together, allowing divers upon completion, to Instruct Open Water Divers. The start of the instructor levels in the PADI Professional Development.
